Hysteroscopy is the examination of the uterus by vaginal route with a light tube. If there is an abnormality during this procedure, these abnormalities can be treated with electrocautery, scissors and other equipment without incision or suture.
Hysteroscopy is used successfully in the following cases.
- Checking the inside of the uterus in IVF failures
- The presence of polyps causing abnormal bleeding in the uterus
- The presence of myomas in or near inside of the uterus. If the myomas are very large, they may not be removed at the same session. A second session may be required.
- If there is a division in the uterus, this division can be excised.
- If there is an adhesion in the uterus depending on previous interventions (abortion, cesarean section, hysteroscopy etc.).
Hysteroscopy can be performed in two ways: in clinic and operating room. The diameter of the clinic hysteroscopy is thin and it can be done without anesthesia in the clinic. If further surgery is to be performed, it is performed under operating room conditions with operative hysteroscopy with a thicker diameter.
